There are those of us who are do-it-yourself junkies, and those of us that prefer one or two projects a year. Whichever side of the fence you stand on, we’re bringing you some inspiration to spice up the ambiance in your kitchen. From the simplistic to skillful, each of these projects are manageable for anyone willing to give it a shot.
1. Paint bold stripes on an a kitchen accent wall
Add one color. Or two. A simple pattern. Or complex. With some careful planning you can take a drab accent wall to a fresh updated look with some painters tape and a little bit of paint.
2. Build your own butcher block
Some nice solid wood, some pipes or shelving, and a few casters – just a few things put together can make a lovely and practical butcher block to accent your kitchen and even make some of your space more useful.
3. Give your cabinets an update with a fresh coat of paint
Replacing cabinets can often be one of the biggest expenses in any remodel. Skip the total overhaul and just give them a fresh clean coat of paint.
4. Paint your refrigerator, pantry door, or open wall with chalkboard paint
If the kitchen really is the heart of your home, you already know that’s where everyone wants to be. Why not make the space more fun – and even more useful – by coating something with chalkboard paint. Whether you use it for grocery lists, personal reminders, or a kid play space, chalkboard paint gives you an opportunity to make use of a space that may have only served a single purpose previously.
5. Make a dining room table out of an old door
An old door can be revamped into pretty much anything, but with the right type of door you can make a show-stopping dining table. With some elbow grease, some basic hardware, and a bit of extra lumber, you can upcycle that old door into a solid table with serious longevity.
